Our establishment

ARRIETA HAUNDI BASERRIA agrotourism centre has a medium category rating. We are in the beautiful town of Zegama, in the foothills of the Aizgorri mountain range (a Nature Reserve), where the San Adrián tunnel and a Roman road (St James´ Way) are to be found. It was built in 1680 and was completely refurbished in 1990 to offer visitors all creature comforts during their stay.

Useful tourist information

Nature is the main resource in the Goierri Region. It could not be otherwise, since it is at the entrance to the Aralar and Aizgorri Nature Reserves.

In the Aralar and Aizgorri mountain ranges, vast extensions of beech woods contrast with the mountain pastures where the famous Idiazabal cheese comes from. There are wonderful hiking and mountain biking opportunities.

Other events not to be missed: the traditional Ordizia fair (every Wednesday, all year round) with a wide range of local products. It takes place in the town of Zerain, which has an extensive cultural and natural heritage.

Legazpi, whose great iron tradition is best shown by the Mirandola foundry, dating back to 1335. La Antigua Shrine in the town of Zumarraga was built at the beginning of the 13th century in a perfect combination of wood and stone.

Zegama

The old Roman road that once linked Guipúzcoa to the plains of Alava province begins in the town of Zegama. It goes through the stunning natural Lizarrate Pass, better known as the San Adrían tunnel due to its proximity to San Adrián Shrine. Some stretches of the Roman road are still in good condition.

San Martín Parish Church houses General Zumalacarregui´s mausoleum. The Town Hall stands out in front of the square. Casa Aitamarren, a house at the town entrance, has an interesting pointed window.

In the Zegama mountains you can discover the Altzania megalith site. It has interesting monuments such as the Tartaloetxeta dolmen, in Mount Saadar, where Tartalo (a mythological Basque giant) lived.
